"...a TOUGH sounding band" Junior Watson

THE INSOMNIACS' inspiration comes from traditional American roots of blues, R&B, jazz, and early rock and roll. They blend these influences into their own unique sound and deliver it with the freshness and youthful energy of rock and roll merged with the style and improvisational muscle of jazz and swing.

The bands latest release, "AT LEAST I'M NOT WITH YOU" (April 21, 2009/Delta Groove Music), quickly reached #4 on both the Living Blues Chart and the Roots Music Report. It also grabbed the "Hot Shot Debut " slot on the Billboard Blues Chart at #14. This sophomore follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut has won three awards: the Illinois Blues Blast Award for "Best Contemporary Blues Recording", a Portland Music Award for "Outstanding Achievement in Blues", and the "Best NW Recording" award from the Cascade Blues Society. The disc was also named BEST CD of 2009 by Illinois Blues and the title track has been nominated for the "Song of The Year" Blues Music Award (BMA/W.C. Handy) and is receiving rave reviews and award nominations around the world.

The Blues Foundation’s 2008 "Best New Artist Debut" nomination of Delta Groove’s release of “LEFT COAST BLUES" brought national attention to this jump blues foursome. Since then The Insomniacs have been the subject of over 80 reviews and articles worldwide and have logged a heavy touring schedule spanning 80 cities in 18 states and 2 Canadian provinces. The 2 CD's have also pulled down 19 award nominations in two short years moving The Insomniacs from notable "new act" to seasoned performers sharing the stage with the best in the business.

Although they play vintage instruments and channel a blues style from the 1950’s, there is a distinct new cyberspace bent to Delta Groove's blues-award-winning quartet. They fill the long drives between gigs surfing the web on wireless laptops, looking at MySpace and Facebook friends of the clubs down the road, and personally emailing blues fans asking them to listen to the band and come to the show. The result is hundreds of plays per day on MySpace, a site usually focused on alternative, pop and hip-hop music. They've enrolled a whole new generation of first-time young blues fans, as well as traditional fans who recognize the roots of their music.

Based in Portland, OR, The Insomniacs are led by 28-year-old vocalist/guitarist/songwriter VYASA DODSON. Together with bassist DEAN MUELLER, keyboardist ALEX SHAKERI and drummer DAVE MELYAN, they burst out of nowhere with their self-produced debut release "Left Coast Blues", recorded in the living room of bassist Dean Mueller. The disc was quickly snatched up by Delta Groove and released worldwide to rave reviews.

The Blues community recognized their talent early with 16 award nominations, of which they won a Muddy Award from Oregon's prestigious Cascade Blues Association for Best New Act of 2006 and Best Contemporary Act of 2007. They were nominated for a 2008 Best NewArtist Debut Award from The Blues Foundation, and the song "Crime Scene" was named one of the top 20 contemporary blues songs for 2007 by BluesCritic.com.

Guitarist Vyasa Dodson, whose exotic name is a Sanskrit gift from his Northern California mother, had a revelation when he switched from emulating Stevie Ray Vaughan and Eric Clapton to studying jump blues masters such as Junior Watson, Tiny Grimes, Charlie Christian, and Little Charlie Baty. "The Blues isn't dead," says Dodson. "It's just going in different directions. B.B. King and Buddy Guy got started when they were young. The same thing is happening today."

The Insomniacs have raised the bar with "AT LEAST I’M NOT WITH YOU". Check it out yourself - the last thing you'll want to do is sleep.
